Pauline's message for the return to school

Welcome back to Foundation, Year 1 & Year 2 students

Only families who have responded to the application for Onsite Learning for students in Year 3-6 in Week 8 will be permitted to be onsite.  Thank you for your understanding.

Week 8 Onsite Learning

Only families who have responded to the application for Onsite Learning for the week will be permitted to be onsite. Thank you for your understanding.

Term 2, Week 8 - Onsite Learning Application for students in Years 3-6.

The Government's firm request is that all students will be learning from home, except for those children of workers in essential industries and those children who are vulnerable.
Sacred Heart School will provide care for children on days when;

  • parents cannot work from home in essential industries (i.e. the parents' employment does not allow them to work from the home)
  • children who are not able to be supervised at home due to parents' employment commitments and no other arrangements can be made
  • vulnerable children.

All students, whether they are on the school site or learning at home, will have the same work provided for them.

Please click on the link below if you are within one of the above categories and you would like to use the Onsite Learning at School during Week 8. We need to know by 11am on Friday 29th May. Only families who have submitted an application and have received a reply from the school on Friday 22nd (by 3:30pm) will be permitted onsite in Week 7. Thank you for your understanding.

Please click on the link below to register your application for onsite learning for students in Years 3-6.

We would like to communicate the following changes to up coming events and thank you for your support as we work together to keep our students safe. We understand that some of these measures will disappoint families but we ask that all school community members respect the decisions in light of the current and quickly changing times we find ourselves in.

Term 2 - online learning

Some important things to remember:

• Organise a comfortable learning space away from distractions
• Prepare a daily schedule – keep it as similar to the school day as possible
include time for lessons, break and some fun
• Collect learning Packs and iPads from school [Tuesday and Wednesday]

Onsite learning for Foundation to Year 2 students commences on Tuesday 26th May (Monday 25th May is a pupil free day).

Onsite learning for Year 3- 6 students commences on Tuesday 9th June (Monday 8th is a public holiday).

The Department of Education has some excellent resources on its website to support parents with implementing learning from home.
• https://www.education.vic.gov.au/…/class…/Pages/default.aspx

But remember:
• Learning is fun;
• Learning is best accomplished when it is relevant, meaningful, and hands-on;
• Learning can be in short bursts with breaks for snacks, drinks, exercise, not sitting for hours;
• Learning is safe, risk-free, adventurous and sparks curiosity;
• Learning is a social process that must include ‘talk’;
• Reading together, every day and every kind of material is gratifying, important and a bonding process. Writing daily can be fun when art is included;
• Learning can be all around the house as exploration; discovery through inquiry is learning.

Parent Helpers and Volunteers

Until further notice, we ask that there are no parent helpers and volunteers in classrooms or school events. Importantly, parents and guardians are still welcome to walk their child into school in the morning and pick their child up at the end of the school day.

Until further notice, all school assemblies are cancelled.

Lunch Orders

Until further notice there wil be no lunch orders offered on Thursdays and Fridays.

School Banking

Until further notice, all school banking is cancelled.

Men's Shed and Sewing Club

Until further notice, all Men's Shed and Sewing Club sessions are cancelled.

Please also remember we are in constant dialogue with relevant authorities and the above information may change at any time.

Sanitisation Measures at the school

The school has increased sanitation measures and the frequency of disinfection in our classrooms and on equipment,  We have minimised visitors to the classrooms and have hand sanitiser on the reception desk for all visitors.  Please be assured that we are doing all that we can to protect and keep safe our students, staff and visitors.

Students learning onsite will need to be signed in by a Parent/Caregiver and temperatures will be taken before entry into the school.  Social distancing restrictions will be implemented.

Wellbeing News

Don't pressure yourself. Don't pressure the kids if they need time to figure it out too, that's OK
Just take one step at a time towards positivity. Our usual coping strategies may have been taken away so don't forget to do some things to
ground yourself, others and give our emotional wellbeing a recharge.

Here are just a few ideas:
- Get some fresh air
- Exercise is always great, no matter how great or small.
- Sit still and take in the world.
- Learn a new skill. Youtube has many amazing instructional videos!
- Write, and it doesn't matter what. Write a journal to look back on or write a fictional story with your family.
Writing is an amazing way of letting feelings and emotions flow.

I have also attached a poster for grounding anxiety,
Many of your children will already know this but if you can print it out and have it in a place that's seen by everyone or a place
that you tend to gravitate toward when you are feeling stressed or anxious. It can be a very quick, very effective way of getting a grasp of anxiety.

Along with setting up a space for your home learning, set a space for relaxation. A voluntary space where anyone can go for a much needed timeout. Where they are essentially 'barleys' for a period of time until they have a grasp of their emotions or anxiety.

Dont forget I am here for a wide range of support and questions no matter what your struggle or stress may be.
I can't wait to see the kids smiling faces and amazing Easter Holiday stories!!!
